Mindfulness-Based Meditation - Online
with Deanna Burkett
MON OCT 20, 6:30 - 7:15 PM CDT

Mindfulness-based meditation is consistently included and highly ranked as an evidence-based approach for relieving emotional and mental distress and increasing insight; reducing symptoms of anxiety and depression; working with physical pain; and improving relationships with ourselves and others. Each week, we will practice mindfulness-based meditation as a group, with a combination of instruction, silence, and time for structured reflections.

The weekly meditations are adaptations of those taught in the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Program, originally developed in the late 1970's by Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, for patients struggling with pain and chronic stress.

Deanna, the facilitator, is a Certified Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Teacher and has been teaching MBSR and its adaptations since 2010.

Deanna facilitates the group very similarly to how MBSR courses are offered, which reduces cross-talk within the group and prioritizes time for meditation practice and structured, "here and now" reflections.

This group is suitable for all experience levels and, more importantly, it is designed and offered in a way that is meant to be accessible to differing levels of personal comfort with entering a group setting, which can be a challenging setting for many of us to enter.

Feel free to reach out to Deanna with any questions, or arrive 15 minutes early, for the possibility of one-on-one time. All are welcome.
